web 2.0 teaching new technologies

By Changing Present we Change the Future

My four months sabbatical is winding down. It was a very intense, full of events and traveling adventures time. My sabbatical project was used to explore the full dimensions of the Web 2.0 phenomenon and its application to teaching and teacher education. Considerable time was spent on exploring Web 2.0 tools, including blogs and wikis, social networking professional groups and social bookmarking and RSS. Numerous tools were acquired and learned.

Sharing Knowledge is good!

I discovered a new Web 2.0 social bookmarking tool, Live Binder. It is a bookmarking site where a teacher can create thematic folders of resources and share it with the students, other teachers and parents. I enjoyed looking through featured binders of people and created my own site:
http://livebinders.com/shelf/my. Try it out!

Time to Think, Write, and Create

I had a sabbatical during the fall semester of 2009. It was a time for thinking, writing, exploring/experimenting with the new Web 2.0 tools, classifying them and collaborating with like-minded people about the emergent technologies.

Opening Professional Horizons

When I teach my online courses I always introduce my students to the professional development site, named Tapped IN http://tappedin.org/tappedin/. I want the teacher candidates to explore their educational horizons, learn about the tools they can use to improve their skills and knowledge about teaching and learning, create networks with teachers and educators from all over the country.

Center For Academic Excellence

An exciting conference will take place on June 6 through 8 at Fairfield University, CT.

This is my second time to participate in this inspiring event.

I am conducting a workshop on the topic "Web 2.0 Environments: Challenges and Opportunities for Learning and Teaching."

I have a lot of ideas how to run the workshop. It depends on how much time I will be granted and what computer lab I will get for the session...
